Indian national convicted of murder was in UAE jail
M A Yusuf Ali, a Sudanese boy convicted of killing a Sudanese boy in a road accident in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2012, was released from prison by paying a compensation of Rs 1 crore. In September 2012, Bex Krishnan, 45, a resident of Kerala, rammed a group of children while driving recklessly. Krishnan was sentenced to death by the UAE Supreme Court after he was found guilty of killing a Sudanese boy.
Since then, Krishnan's family and friends have been trying
to get him released, but they could not do so as the victim's family has
returned to their home country of Sudan, due to which they could not convince
him to give an apology. Krishnan's family then approached Yusuf Ali, chairman
of the Lulu Group, who inquired about the matter and spoke to all the parties.
The Lulu Group said in a statement that the victim's family finally agreed to
pardon Krishnan in January 2021. After this, Yusuf Ali paid a compensation of
five lakh dirhams (about one crore rupees) in the court for the release of
Krishnan.
It's rebirth for me: Krishnan
It was a rebirth for me, as I had given up all hope of
seeing the outside world and living a free life, Krishnan was quoted as saying
in a statement. Now my only wish is to meet Yusuf Ali before going to visit his
family. Yusuf Ali thanked the generosity of God and the visionary rulers of the
United Arab Emirates for the release of Krishnan. He wished Krishnan a happy
and peaceful life.
